Gastronomie locale

Situé à Höfn, le nouveau Humarhöfnin se distingue par sa gastronomie locale faite à partir de langoustines péchées à même le port voisin. Inoubliable!

Re: activities in Hofn??

I agree with Frozen Baz's restaurant choice. We ate there a month ago, the Lobster Bisque and the Langoustine tails were fabulous. One of our best meals in Iceland. We wandered around the harbour a bit but our time there was limited. Things were very quiet around town the evening we were there. Though I will never forget that dinner!

The woman at the reception desk of our hotel recommended this restaurant when we told her we had our heart set on lobster for dinner. She said it was the best and it was!
The business card we had for it says "Gastronomy Langoustine" which it does say on the building but the larger sign says 'Humarhofnin'. We were greeted the minute we walked in the door (something we did not find at other restaurants we ate at!) and seated almost immediately though we had no reservation. It was only half full. The restaurant is fairly simple in decor but the service and food was exceptional. We started wth the lobster bisque and a basket of bread and icelandic butter. Delicious! We followed that with the platter of langoustine (small lobster) tails which came with two dipping sauces and a small salad. The lobster was buttery and garlicy and the sauces were divine. I at first was hesitant to try them as I just love lobster simple with butter but my curiousity got the better of me. One seemed like a balsamic vinagrette type and the other was called pink langoustine sauce...maybe with sour cream. Both were actually fantastic. Once I convinced my husband to try we were both oohing and aahing with every bite! One glass of wine and the dinners were around 14000 isk. Which is pretty much what we would pay here in Canada. It was one of our favourite meals. The waiter knew when to be attentive and when to withdraw, probably the best service we had anywhere in Iceland. We would go back in a second given the chance and I would give it an excellent rating! I drool at the memory!
