Jökulsárlón

Jökulsárlón (the Glacier Lagoon) is a natural wonder with huge iceblocks floating on the lagoon right by highway no. 1! You can take a 30-40 min. guided boat trip on the lagoon, sailing among icebergs over thousand years old. A great opportunity for photographing! A small cafe offering refreshments and souvenirs is by the lagoon. It's wonderful to relax on the veranda and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The service is open from early may to late november. Skaftafell National Park 60 km., Höfn 80 km.

To achieve this, we hike, climb or ski, with aid of crampons, snowshoes or skis, and the destination can be a short visit to glacier close to the hotel or full day ski ascent of Iceland's highest mountain, Hvannadalshnúkur, or something between!

In the summer we offer a history and bird watching trip with tractor drawn hay wagon to Ingólfshöfði Nature Reserve. We offer an easy kayaking trip on the waters of Hofsnes also.

Glacier jeeps - Ice & Adventure

Glacier jeeps - Ice & Adventure offer adventure tours with specially equipped 4WD jeeps, skidoos and glacier hiking on Vatnajokull, Europe's largest glacier.

Our most popular tour starts from crossroad to Jöklasel (road F985) From: 01. May to 10. September / at 9.30 and 14.00.
Our tours are 3-4 hours.

In the winter the start times of our tours vary and we originate from our base in Vagnsstaðir Hostel about 6km from the crossroad.  Please feel free to contact us by e-mail for more information on our winter tours.

First we drive up to Jöklasel and then on the snowy glacier Vatnajökull, where we have breathtaking views of deep valleys, high mountains and of course, the great Vatnajökull itself.

Hólmur

Farm Zoo with Icelandic domesticated breeds.

In Hólmur you can find lambs, horses, calves, goats, a pig and various kinds of birds and rabbits.
The animals are kept indoors during winter, and outside in summertime. Different numbers and types of animals are to be found between seasons.

In springtime, many new lives begin in the zoo.
Wheelchair access.

Guests who stay overnight in wintertime are offered free access to the farm zoo.
Guests have the chance to feed sheep and other animals on the farm if they wish to.

The Icelandic Mountain Guides

From the 1st of March till the 31st of October each year we set up our camp in Skaftafell National Park and from there we operate both glacier tours on Svínafellsjökull glacier tongue, and tours to the surrounding mountains, among others the summit of Hvannadalshnúkur (2110 m), the highest peak in Iceland. Our Sales Cabin in the National Park's parking area is the point of departure for our multiple day tours as well as for other climbing and hiking activities. You can book your glacier tour at the Icelandic Mountain Guides Sales Cabin next to the National Park Visitor's Center in Skaftafell, there you can also book all kinds of other activities and accommodation in South-East Iceland. Minimun age for most glacier walks is 10 years.

Thorbergur center of culture in Hali in the district  Sudursveit of Southeast Iceland.

Thorbergur center was built in memory of the famous icelandic writer Þórbergur Þórðarson (1888 – 1974), who was born in Hali. In Thorbergur center there are a heritage museum and unique exhibitions of the district Sudursveit and the writer Þórbergur Þorðarson, his life and work.

In the Thorbergur centre is a fully licensed restaurant.
We offer you coffee, homebaked cakes and our specialities such as the farmraised arctic char (trout) from Hali as well as other traditional local food like gourmet Icelandic lamb and traditional lamb meat soup with bread.
