Cottages

Cottages and huts are a new form of accommodation in the Vatnajökull region and you'll find them in the camping areas listed below. It is recommended that you bring your own sleeping bag but some locations offer bed linen for rent.  Please note that all other services, such as lavatories and showers, will be in separate facilities.

If you want to go on an overnight hike, there is a mountain hut in Lónsöræfi, Múlaskáli.

Svínafell in Öræfi  

 
Svínafell in Öræfi offers sleepingbag accomodation in six cottages, each housing 4 people in two bunk beds. Each cabin contains a basin with running water, cutlery and crockery for up to four people. All Guests have access to the Campers Service Building facilities next to the cabins. Where there are minimal cooking facilities, showers and toilets, a dining room with enough tables and chairs to seat 80-90 people. In Svínafell we also offer sleeping bag accommodation in six double rooms, a camping ground for 100-150 and  Laundry facilities.

Lambhús
Lambleiksstaðir in Mýrar

At the farm Lambleiksstaðir in Mýrar (30 km west of Höfn) are 4 new cottages with sleeping bag accommodation. In three cottages are double bunkbeds for four persons. In one cottage are six beds, four in a double bunkbed and two on a sleeping couch. It is possible to have an extra mattress. Total number of beds is 18.
Cooking facilities and WC is in each cottage but no shower.
At Lambhús there is also a camping site with toilets, one shower and a barbeque.

Náttból in Höfn - Campsite

Náttból offers sleeping accomodation in 16 cottages at the camping ground in Höfn. Each house has bunks for 4-6 people, a diningroom area with a table and six chairs and a cooking plate. A small veranda is in front of each house. Electricity is in the cottages. Access is to good sanitary and laundry facilities, playground for children and internet connection at the campground.

Múlaskáli - Mountain cabin in Lónsöræfi

The Southeast Iceland touring association owns a mountain cottage in Kollumúli in Lónsöræfi (GPS location: 64°33.200 - 15°09.077) with sleepingbag accomodation for 30 people. Self catering kitchen and a toilet. The cottage is in a spectacular landscape from where are numerous walking and hiking trails. In the summertime there are daily bus trips from Höfn to Illikambur, which is in a 40 min. walking distance from the cottage.

Vagnsstaðir in Suðursveit

Vagnsstaðir is in the Suðursveit area, about 50 km west of Höfn and 28 km east of Jökulsárlón. The house is in an attractive area surrounded by a beautiful ring of mountains and Vatnajökull glacier. Vagnsstaðir hostel offers six rooms with the total of 28 beds. Sleepingbag accomodation is available as well as linen rental. Well equipped kitchen and a meeting room for guests. We also offer 4-6 bedded cottages with WC. Campground with good sanitary facilities.
Attractive hiking paths invite one into the surrounding area, using a hiking map, you get at the Hostel. The shore, only 1500 m away, displays extensive birdlife as well as seals on the beach.
From the Hostel there are jeep/snowmobile tours to Vatnajökull (Europe's biggest glacier). You can choose among tours from 3-4 hours. It is also possible to combine a jeep/snowmobile tour and hiking.

Lækjarhús in Öræfi

Lækjarhús offers accommodation in cozy cabins at Hof in Öræfi. This is a sleeping bag accommodation but bed linen can also be provided for a reasonable fee. The area around Lækjarhús offers wonderful nature and scenery as the Öræfi district is famous for its unique natural beauty and the dramatic contrasts in its landscape. Major attractions in the area include Skaftafell National Park, Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, Öræfajökull glacier and cape Ingólfshöfði Nature Reserve.
